St Francis of Assisi, Petts Wood

For it is in giving that we receive.

The St Francis Pilgrimage

"St Francis, our Patron Saint, was born in the small hill town of Assisi, 100 miles/ 160 km north of Rome, during the winter of 1181/82 and died there in October 1226.
A great basilica was built to house his tomb and became a significant place of pilgrimage, together with other sites in the area associated with his life and that of St Clare (1194-1253), the founder of the order of Franciscan sisters.

We had hoped to make a Parish Pilgrimage to Assisi in March 2020 but were forced to cancel a few days before because of the onset of the
coronavirus pandemic.
This pilgrims manual was prepared, to give us all the information for our visit.

We look forward to being able to rearrange the Pilgrimage, which has provisionally been done for 2023.
Meanwhile, we hope that this manual may enable you to go there in Spirit."
