St Francis of Assisi, Petts Wood

For it is in giving that we receive.

HARVEST THANKSGIVING

Entrance Antiphon: Bow down thine ear, O Lord, and hear me: my God, save thy servant that putteth his trust in thee: be merciful unto me, O Lord, for I will call daily upon thee.

COLLECT

Keep, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy Church with thy perpetual mercy: and, because the frailty of man without thee cannot but fall; keep us ever by thy help from all things hurtful, and lead us to all things profitable to our salvation.

FIRST READING               Hebrews 2:9-11

But we see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren.

GOSPEL                              John 6.25-35

And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS

Grant to us, Lord, we beseech thee, that this saving victim may avail, both for the cleansing of our offences, and for the obtaining of the favour of thy almighty power.

Communion Antiphon: The bread which I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

Let thy holy Sacrament, O God, evermore cleanse and defend us: that we may be brought thereby to the attainment of everlasting salvation.
